SciREX特別セミナー 「科学技術外交の最前線～前英国外務省主席科学顧問ロビン・グライムス氏を迎えて～」

概要
近年、外交において科学を活用し、外交政策の立案・実施においても科学を活用する「科学技術外交」は、その重要性から世界的にも関心が高まっています。今回は、本年8月まで英国外務省主席科学顧問を務められたロビン・グライムス氏が来日される機会を捉え、英国における科学技術外交の現状、課題、そして今後の期待について、同氏のご経験からお話をいただきます。また、現在、我が国の科学技術顧問の岸輝雄氏もお招きし、日英における科学技術外交について「外交のための科学」、「科学のための外交」、「外交における科学」の観点から、意見交換いただきます。パネルディスカッションでは、経済発展における科学技術外交の役割、官民連携についても議論いたします。 参考：Vaughan C. SUMMARY
The use of science for diplomacy and to inform policy has a growing interest globally. This event will explore how science can be used for diplomacy. The event will be chaired by GRIPS Vice president, Professor Atsushi Sunami. Professor Teruo Kishi and Professor Robin Grimes will draw on their experience as chief scientist to describe how science can support diplomacy, how diplomacy can support science and how science can be used to improve policymaking generally. Our panel of science policy experts will discuss their views and experience on the importance of increased scientific input into government problem solving and driving economic growth.

Background
Professor Teruo Kishi and Professor Robin Grimes along with other countries' chief scientists previously wrote a report on the overall potential for international science cooperation and encourages the development of new taxonomy and associated functions for science diplomacy.
