This is a brief summary of the SciREX Summer Camp-2021. What it is can be seen on this page.

Time: 3 days from Friday, September 3-Sunday, September 5, 2021
THEME: Innovation System in the Post-pandemic Era
Schedule

Language: English-Japanese simultaneous interpretation served
Secretariat: ImPP (Hitotsubashi University), GiST (GRIPS), and SciREX Center (GRIPS)


Participation:
Fifty-three students participated from the 6 SciREX core center universities. No participants were recruited from outside these istitutions. When the invited lecturers, government officials, university faculty and staff members, and secretariat members are added, the event was participated by 105 people in total.

Sub-themes:
It had 9 sub-topics (9 groups) as below. Topics 3 and 9 were carried in English.
1. Implementation of Sustainable Carbon-free Society through life-style innovation in the post-pandemic era
2. Researchers' Involvement in Policies in Post-pandemic era
3. Space applications in the COVID era (in English)
4. Road Mapping for Mission-oriented Innovation Policymaking
5. Countermeasures for Future Infectious Diseases based on the COVID-19 Experience
6. Science, Technology and Innovation Viewed from Data
7. Education in the Post-pandemic Era
8. International Relations and International Communications after Experiencing COVID-19
9. The Wealth of Nations: Pandemics, Industrial Revolutions, and Economic Growth (in English)

Review:
All the students' final presentations were panel-reviewed with the criteria of:
- Identification of issues: appropriateness of issue setting, uniqueness of viewpoints
- Proposal development process: use of evidences, objectivity, discussion process
- Policy proposal: concreteness, quality of policy design, feasibility, novelty
- Presentation: ease of understanding, appropriateness in responding to questions

Winners:
The panel made decision on the following winners:
Best Prize: Group 4
Outstanding Prize: Groups 1, 2, and 7
Students Award: Group 9
