Innovation Ecosystem Investigation Committee Established

The Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI) established a Committee for investigating Innovation Ecosystem that investigates and discuss investment cycle and strengthening of human resources from a STI policy viewpoint. The investigation period is one year. The first meeting focused on: Knowing the issues and finding the themes, what the government can do; How to establish a world-class startup ecosystem; Presentations by the Committee members, including the Japan Venture Capital Association (JVCA).
International Brain Circulation and International Research Cooperation

In an effort of becoming the core of the international brain circulation network, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEXT) will establish a new program for young researchers to try themselves overseas and improve the current joint degree program. These arrangements are in addition to the conventional Research Fellowship for Young Researchers that allows young researchers to study overseas and a new program "International Leading Research (tentative name)" that will begin from April 2022. MEXT expects that promoting all of these comprehensively will foster world-class researchers and international brain circulation.
Government Quantum Technology Strategy: Review by the Working Group

Amid the drastically changing quantum-related R&D trend worldwide, what can Japan do? The government working group on quantum technology sent its mid-term report to the Quantum Technology Innovation Council. The final report will be submitted to the Council for STI Policy (CSTI) in April, which is expected to be approved at the Comprehensive Innovation Strategy Promotion Conference in May 2022 to make the JFY2023 budget include the budget for the strategy.
The quantum computing R&D and commercialization are being accelerated in the industrial sector in other countries. In addition, such services or technologies that combines traditional computers and quantum computing are developing. The value of quantum technology is more and more important from the viewpoints of realizing carbon neutral, digitized, and secure society.
