NISTEP: National Institute of Science and Technology Policy

This is a report by the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) to provide basic information that would contribute to establishing science and technology innovation policies and strategies, including the 6th Science and Technology Basic Plan. The report covers 30 years from 2020 till 2050, focusing on the year of 2040.

The report begins with the trends and signs of changes in science & technology and society. Then, it focuses on the future images of society and examines the future images of sciene and technology. It finally integrates the trends and images to foresee the future images of society in line with the development of science and technology.

Fifty images were selected in foreseeing the future images of society and 702 science and technology topics were taken for examination of the future images of science and technology. Based on these, surveys were made to the experts as to the priority, international competitiveness, and prospects for implementing the topics.
