Abstract | This research focuses on Japanese input-output tables in which R&D expenditures were internalized as intangible capital investment, enabling the evaluation on intangible assets as knowledge stock in quantity and quality. The research makes both the R&D investments by the government and the industry that contribute to the static and dynamic total factor productivity (TPF) improvement and the production efficiency improvement by industry be identified. The Japanese system of National Account (JSNA) was revised to meet the 2008 UN recommendation on the System of National Accounts in 2016. The System internalized the R&D expenditures by the government and the private sector as capital investment. The revision increased the Japanese GDP amount by 3-4% annually from the old estimates. The Japanese Input-Output Table is to be revised in the 2016 Table. This paper estimates the IO tables during 1995-2011 as the R&D expenditures by the government and the industry are capitalized in accordance with the new JSNA. |
