++Japan's STI Policy News: Points of the 39th CSTI meeting-June 14, 2018

The Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI), Japanese Government's STI policy making body, convened on June 14, 2018. The following is the points of the meeting (summary translation responsibility: Kazuko Nakata @SciREX Center).


Agenda

Integrated Innovation Strategy for JFY2018 (April 2018-March 2019) that will be the base for designing the JFY2019 Japanese Government STI programs and budget

Points

. "Disruptive innovation" is developing worldwide, which has changed the innovation game structure.  How Japan should cope with this trend?



. Reviewing the Comprehensive Strategic Plan-2017, list up what are left unaccomplished and the actions to be taken in 2018.



. Getting out of ithe traditional and inflexible economic and social structures, form a society of a "comprehensive economic and social structure that has flexibility and autonomy" and build the "Society 5.0."



. Integrate various policies to enable a straight flow all the way from "basic research" through "commercialization or international development." 



. Establish a "Meeting to Promote Comprehensive Innovation Strategy" by summer 2018 to review and coordinate the STI programs across all the STI ministries.
