Outline | More than 1 million people in Japan are in a state of severe social withdrawal called “hikikomori”, a phenomenon that those who confine themselves to their parents’ homes and unable to go to work or school for an extended period of time. While various facilities such as local youth support stations provide supports, they are not always able to offer sufficient assistance or not easily accessible. Meanwhile, the trend for digital transformation is bringing a wave of change to Japan’s work landscape. In other words, work at home has become more common as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and companies are increasingly allowing the employees to be engaged in side jobs. Furthermore, new workstyles that use Avatars in the Metaverse is more and more garnering attention. This seminar will discuss the potential for the Metaverse to enhance inclusion of diverse work styles. It will show an experimental project in Fukuoka where consultation and job training are provided to “hikikomori” people through the Metaverse. It will also discuss further possibilities for the Metaverse to create more inclusive work spaces to ultimately bring us closer to a society where “No one is Left Behind (NLB)”. |
