Outline | Such social issues as the coronavirus pandemic and decarbonization represent a change in historical trend to show a shift from a growth-oriented society in the 20th century to a resilient and sustainable society. To solve complex modern social issues, we need comprehensive knowledge that is proposed in the Sixth Science, Technology, and Innovation Basic Plan. The direction of our policy has also changed to encourage knowledge integration between the natural sciences and humanities and social sciences. Amid such historical trends, what kind of Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy is needed to realize a sustainable social system? How should we design such a policy? Based on our recognition of history of science and technology, we need to present our Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy to ensure future development. In this session, returning to the fundamental question of “What is the role of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy?” we will discuss how we should recognize science and technology and how we should design our Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy from the viewpoints of government officials, researchers, and the industries to subsequently draw an ideal policy design. |
