GRIPS Innovation, Science, Technology and Policy Program (GIST), SciREX Center
The Disruptive, Inclusive Innovation (DII) seminars held in the years of 2019, 2020, and 2021 are summarized in the book, "Business Propelling Prosperity" published in November 2021, which was introduced at the DII Seminar on December 1, 2021. The DII seminars have focused on such organizations that provide (inclusion) not-already-existing (disruptive) products and services (value) to those who need them (left behind), and introduced the cases. These efforts were to prove that social renovation (transformation) can be driven by learning from good examples that try to realize ideal society.
Maintaining the above objective, the DII seminars from 2022 will focus on financial inclusion that uses digital technologies.
The second DII seminar in 2022 will be on "Virtual Cycle of Fintech-born Area-limited Money Circulation: Area-limited digital currency "Sarubobo Coin." The details of the past DII seminars can be obtained from here.

Outline | The Hida-Takayama (a Tourist spot in Gifu Prefecture)-limited digital currency “Sarubobo Coin” is so attractive that many other local areas are trying to introduce the same system. This Webinar will examine and discuss how this service was born and came to be used together with financial organizations, local governments, and policy researchers. The circulation of digital currency with its use limited to a certain area drives money circulation. As it uses digital technologies, the effect is not limited to vitalizing the local area economy, but expand as a financial platform from attracting tourism through government’s child allowance to support child-rearing families. We will discuss various possibilities of using such technologies for policy measures, including advancing administrative services, reproducibility in other areas, and issues when reproducing the same service in other areas with those who experienced using the system. |
