The U.S. Science, Technology and Innovation policy is undergoing dynamic change under the Biden Administration as seen in the establishment of ARPA-H and expansion of NSF’s role. The administration is leading global issues like climate change and pandemic, while discussing how to deal with sensitive emerging technologies to cope with growing China’s science and technology abilities.

This session will invite Dr. Vaughan Turekian, Executive Director of the U.S. National Academies’ Policy and Global Affairs Division, who previously served as the science and technology advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State, and the founding director of the AAAS’Center for Science Diplomacy. He will make us updated with the U.S. Science, Technology and Innovation policies, including the most recent report issued by the Scientific Integrity Task Force that ensures the importance of evidence-based policies.

We will also invite a commentator who is in a leading position in the Japanese political world on research integrity to share his view on how Japan can promote STI policies with the U.S.
