Outline

Predictions are made for a number of phenomena, including earthquakes, typhoons, flu, demographic change, and S&T development. Predictions affect the environment, economy, culture, future society, and policies. Conversely, behaviors and policies affect predictions. Thus, predictions and reality are intertwined and form the society.

The seminar will introduce how "the future that is talked just like it is confirmed based on scientific evidence" has affected the biotechnology policies on regenerative medicine and genome editing. The speaker will talk about how the "expectations" nurtured within a research community are integrated into the S&T policies and then onto the government's industrial policies.
