+March 22: Restoring Trust in Economic Statistics
Center for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Studies (CSTIPS)
Kyushu University's Center for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Studies (CSTIPS) established "Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Program" in 2013. This program has so far accepted a total of 196 students from the Kyushu University Graduate School, the Fukuoka Municipal Office and Fukuoka City Office. CSTIPS also offers opportunities for the Fukuoka people to learn about evidence-based policy making (EBPM). We are happy to be able to invite Dr. Masahiro Kuroda, Professor Emeritus, Keio University, Japan's leading economic analyst to talk about the subject at our EBPM seminar.

| Outline | We are hearing about the news on the government using wrong statistical data almost every day. It is shocking that the data compiled by a govewrnment agency is not reliable. It may lose the public credibility in policy making and implementation. The importance of evidence-based policy making (EBPM) is called for by both the government and public, but the unreliability of the government data makes EBPM hollow. Why has this happened? What can we do to avoid recurrence of the misconduct? |
